Aging and Effects on Teeth

No matter what impact aging has had on your teeth, an experienced dentist will be able to provide you solutions that help keep your smile healthy and beautiful at all stages of life.

Your Role
More than genetics, you are in charge of aging and effects on teeth. The care you take of your teeth starting at a young age will determine how strong they remain as you age. The good news is: taking care of your teeth is simple and requires almost no time at all.

Brush your teeth with a soft bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste after every meal. Morning and night may be sufficient, but will not be nearly as effective at combating common problems such as tooth decay and gum disease as more frequent brushing.

Floss at least once a day. Try to floss twice, making sure you get in between every tooth, down to the gum line. This will help prevent tooth loss through periodontal disease and also be key in maintaining fresh breath.

Visit your dentist at least twice a year for cleanings and examinations. No matter what your age, your dentist will be able to address small problems before they become serious issues if you see him with greater frequency.
Cosmetic Treatments

Aging and lifestyle choices will both impact the appearance of your teeth. Even as you age, having a straight, white, and beautiful smile is an important part of your overall appearance. Aging teeth in particular can benefit from cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers, dental crowns, and dental implants. Some of these treatments can increase both function and appearance, making them ideal for treating issues such as chips, cracks, fractures, and other bite issues.
